Our journey toward a more sustainable future is far from over! As we continue to push forward with our environmental initiatives, we’re excited to share the next step in our ongoing activities—expanding our composting workshops to reach even more people in our community.

After the successful installation of the community composter in front of the Municipality Building and the engaging workshop held with local students, we have seen a growing interest from both young people and adults eager to learn more about composting and sustainable living. This growing enthusiasm has inspired us to host additional workshops in new locations around Smolyan, bringing composting education closer to the people.

Our team, including myself, Valentin Kehayov, and our dedicated intern Severim Bobachev, have been actively planning the next phases of our composting initiative. We’re looking to engage even more schools, local businesses, and community members in the coming months to ensure that composting becomes a common practice in every household.

Our next workshop is set to take place in village if Chepintzi, where we’ll be introducing local families and business owners to the benefits of composting, with practical demonstrations on how they can incorporate composting into their daily lives. This workshop will focus on:

  • The basics of composting: What materials can and cannot be composted.
  • How to maintain a healthy compost: The balance between green and brown materials.
  • Using compost to improve soil: How compost can enhance gardening and local agriculture.

We’ll also be providing participants with starter composting kits, making it easier for them to begin composting at home right away!

This workshop is a part of our larger, ongoing project, “Rural Youth Empowerment: Bridging the Gap for Environmental Advocacy,” co-funded by Youth and Environment Europe (YEE). This initiative continues to engage marginalized youth and the broader community in sustainable practices, and the response has been incredibly positive.

As we move forward, we are also planning to expand our eco-trail renovation efforts and greenhouse projects, ensuring that our work impacts multiple facets of environmental conservation in the region. We believe that these small, hands-on initiatives will add up to create a significant change in how our community views and engages with the environment.

We’re committed to continuing our mission to build a greener, more sustainable Smolyan. Our goal is to create a ripple effect of change, where the knowledge and practices shared in our workshops inspire others to take action in their own homes and neighborhoods.

Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on the next workshops and activities. We’re excited to continue working with the incredible young people and community members who are stepping up to be environmental leaders.

As always, we extend a heartfelt thanks to Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) for their unwavering support and to all our volunteers and partners who make these initiatives possible.

Join us in our mission! Together, we can make a lasting impact.
